At Thwaites School, we recognise that every family may need advice or additional support from time to time. Please contact us if you are concerned about your child or family circumstances. We will listen, offer support and help you access an appropriate service where necessary.

Millom Family Hub

Millom Family Hub provides information, activities, advice and support for children, young people and families in the local community.

Support may include child development, parenting, health and wellbeing, relationships and access to other local services.

Growing Healthy Cumberland: 0–19 Health Service

The Growing Healthy Cumberland 0–19 Service provides health visiting and school-age health support for children, young people and families.

The 5–19 team can provide information, advice and support relating to matters including:

  • physical and emotional health and wellbeing;
  • healthy lifestyles;
  • sleep and continence;
  • additional health needs or disabilities;
  • parenting and behaviour;
  • school-entry health assessments;
  • vision screening; and
  • the National Child Measurement Programme.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

Our Special Educational Needs Coordinator, Mrs S. Morton, works with children, families, staff and external professionals to support pupils with special educational needs or disabilities.

Partnership of Millom Schools

Thwaites School is a member of the Partnership of Millom Schools (PoMS), which brings together schools from Millom and the surrounding area.

The partnership enables schools to:

  • share expertise, resources and effective practice;
  • support the professional development and wellbeing of staff and school leaders;
  • develop joint projects and curriculum opportunities;
  • provide opportunities for pupils from different schools to learn and participate together;
  • support children as they move to the next stage of their education;
  • share relevant local information with families; and
  • work collaboratively to improve outcomes and opportunities for children across the area.

Headteachers and school leaders meet regularly to share information, plan collaborative work and respond to the needs of pupils and families within the local community.
