Online-Safety
At Thwaites School, keeping children safe online is an essential part of our wider safeguarding responsibilities. We help pupils develop the knowledge, confidence and judgement they need to use technology safely, responsibly and positively, both in school and at home.
Online safety is taught throughout our computing and PSHE curriculum using Kapow Education materials. Teaching is age-appropriate and addresses the four main areas of online risk:

Content – what children may see or encounter online

Contact – who children may communicate or interact with

Conduct – how children and others may behave online

Commerce – risks involving advertising, purchases, scams and financial exploitation
Children also learn about privacy, passwords, gaming, social media, misinformation, artificial intelligence and what to do if something online makes them feel worried or uncomfortable.
Online safety is reinforced through computing lessons and at appropriate points during our Monday Values assemblies. We encourage children to Think Before You Click and to See Something, Say Something. Children are reminded that they should always speak to a trusted adult if they encounter something concerning, whether it happens online or offline.
Each year, we participate in Safer Internet Day, giving pupils an additional opportunity to explore current online-safety issues and strengthen their understanding. This complements the online-safety education provided throughout the year.
The school uses filtering and monitoring systems as part of its wider approach to safeguarding. These arrangements are reviewed at least annually and following any significant change to the school’s technology or identified risks. Filtering and monitoring support—but do not replace—effective teaching, appropriate supervision and clear procedures for reporting concerns.
