Uniform

All pupils are expected to wear the Thwaites School uniform. Our uniform is intended to be practical, comfortable and affordable.

Items displaying the school logo are optional. Plain, unbranded alternatives in the appropriate colours may be purchased from any retailer.

School Uniform

Children should wear an appropriate combination of the following:

  • royal-blue sweatshirt, cardigan or hoodie;
  • white polo shirt;
  • grey trousers, shorts, skirt or pinafore dress;
  • lemon checked summer dress or playsuit;
  • black shoes or plain black trainers; and
  • black, grey, navy or white socks or tights.

PE Kit

Children will need:

  • navy-blue or black sports shorts;
  • plain white crew-neck T-shirt;
  • navy or black jogging bottoms or plain black leggings;
  • black or white trainers; and
  • a royal-blue school hoodie for outdoor PE, if required.

School logos on PE clothing are optional.

For safety during PE, long hair must be tied back and clothing and footwear must be appropriate for the activity.

Please clearly label every item of clothing and all personal belongings with your child’s name. This makes it much easier to identify and return misplaced items.

Jewellery and Watches

For health and safety reasons, jewellery worn in school is limited to:

  • one small, plain stud in each ear; and
  • a simple watch.

Smart watches and watches with games, cameras, internet access or communication functions must not be worn in school. The school cannot accept responsibility for jewellery or watches that are lost or damaged.

All jewellery, including earrings and watches, must be removed before PE, sport, swimming and other physical activities. Staff cannot remove earrings for pupils or take responsibility for storing jewellery. On PE days, children should therefore leave earrings and watches at home or be able to remove them independently.

We strongly recommend arranging ear piercing at the beginning of the summer holiday so that the piercing has time to heal before the child returns to school.

If newly pierced earrings cannot be removed, parents and carers must inform the school. The teacher will assess the planned activity and decide how the child can participate safely. This may involve adapting the activity or giving the child another meaningful role connected to the lesson. Covering earrings with tape does not automatically make participation safe.

Other visible body piercings are not permitted.

Where jewellery is worn for religious, cultural or medical reasons, parents and carers should contact the school. We will discuss the child’s needs and make appropriate arrangements, including an individual risk assessment or reasonable adjustment where necessary.
